From 2017 to 2019, I lived in Uptown. During that period, I worked the opening shift, which began at 4:00 a.m. If I wanted to make it on time, I had to be at the Red Line by 3:00 a.m. My memories of the neighborhood still haunt me in my writing.
If you’ve never experienced the rich history of Uptown, Chicago, the Riviera Theater is the perfect starting point. During Open House Chicago this weekend, I started with this architectural gem and saw it in all its glory.
The theater’s bold colors and design transported us back to its early 1920s grandeur.
As someone who lived in Uptown, I feel this area holds a special place in my heart. I channeled my love for the city into my latest poetry collection, Brutal Companion.
