Back to Teaching, Back to Poetry: A Winter's Return
Notes from my first day, plus an invitation to the Mercy Street Readings
I’m guilty of leaving you to wander through my archive for the past month. I had to spend time offline. Last summer, I took a month away from social media. It was glorious. I didn’t want to leave this space, and I’ve been with you through most of last year. I don’t know what this year will bring.
I’m here tonight because it was my first day of school. I started teaching full-time today. I couldn’t sleep last night and must have slept only a few hours. It wasn't easy getting up, but I did it. I can’t sleep again. I feel energized.
I met many of my colleagues who are translators, authors, and playwrights. I felt right at home. All I needed was a stream of coffee and it would have been ideal.
Getting there was fast. I’ve decided to drive this first week. The temperature isn’t expected to exceed 25 degrees, and the roads are covered in snow. This afternoon, I went home through a mini blizzard. I’ll be back again in the morning.
I can’t wait for the weekend. Join me. I invite you to come to the return of my series, the Mercy Street Readings. You can watch it live or attend. It’s expected to be an incredible event.
